The winery was founded in 1952 by Joseph Zeltzer and was initially named Eliaz after his son who was killed in the War of Independence. In 1996 the winery was bought by two Israeli film producers based in Hollywood, Avi Lerner and Danny Dimbort, who changed its name to Binyamina. The two invested greatly to improve the vineyards and introduce modern technologies. In 2008 the winery was purchased by private investors, headed by the owners of the Hatzi Hinam grocery chain, who once again modernized the winery. Current head vintner is Yiftach Peretz. The visitors’ center, offering tours, events and tastings as well as a wine and liquor shop, is housed in an historic building built in 1925 by Baron de Rothschild as a perfume factory. The upper scale Binyamina wines consistently earn high marks.
