After the wine industry's severe crisis of 1984 which plummeted the price of wine grapes, Jonathan Tishbi decided to quit the Winegrowers Union (Carmel Mizrahi) and open his own small winery. At first the winery was named after Baron Edmund de Rothschild as Baron Winery, but the name was later changed to Tishbi Winery. The entire family works together in the winery: Jonathan's wife Nili runs the shop and visitors' center, his son Golan serves as winemaker and vice president, his daughter Oshra introduced the wine to the international market, opened a food and wine cafe in downtown Zikhron Yaakov and a Fine Foods line. The winery houses a visitors' center complete with combined Tishbi wine and Valrhona chocolate tastings, a restaurant, a wine shop and guided tours.
